The growing number of K-Pop addicts in the world is leading to a deep change in the global music industry. The BTS band, K-Pop’s hottest icon, has marked its presence in every corner of the world. In India, too, and especially amongst the youth, there is a huge and growing fan base of BTS. India is among the top five countries on twitter in terms of BTS posts.

The K-Pop industry nowadays has become a worldwide sensation through extraordinary music performances that become instant global hits regardless of the language barrier. Psy’s “Gangnam style” and Blackpink’s “Ddu ddu ddu du” became internet sensations which broke many records and earned many trophies and appreciation worldwide.

It is hard to believe that the industry has grown in this very short period of time in 1992 when the Seo Taiji and group performed on Korean television, and for the very first time people witnessed a different genre in the country. This particular band group were pioneers of integrating Rap into the K-Pop industry. This also became a driving force for emerging new music industries like SM Entertainment in 1995, JYP Entertainment in 1997, and YG Entertainment in 1998 and groups like BTS, Blackpink, Big Bang and Seventeen. Among all these leading groups, the BTS group has been dominating the Indian audiences, besides the USA fans. And in 2022, BTS singer Jungkook became the most popular K-pop star in India.

Bangston Boys commonly known as BTS (Bangtan Soneyondan or Bulletproof Boys Scout) which comes under Big Hit Entertainment Company is a South Korean boy band group. This seven-member band group is the best representative of human’s self being or self love kind of belief. Their choice of music and genre catches the attention of the mainstream public worldwide. Their lyrical representation in the form of melody has made the world acknowledge them and led them to be popular worldwide.

The BTS group includes three rappers Suga, RM and J- Hope and four vocalists Jung Kook, V, Jimin and Jin. It is not only a Hip Hop band group but it also comprises a unique genre following those western and classical flairs. Their work in music strings literature, philosophy and psychological concept into a universal storyline. The BTS band was formed in 2010, with all these members and debuted in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment.

As of 2022, BTS is the bestselling artist group in South Korean history over 30 million albums sold. They have also participated in three sessions of United Nations General Assembly in 2017, where they addressed the UN about their Love Myself campaign. They also featured on the Time magazine’s cover as “Next Generation Leader”, and also appeared on the magazine’s top 25 influential people on the Internet. They also made a record as the youngest recipients of the “Order of Cultural Merit“ by the President of South Korea for their enormous contribution in spreading Korean culture and language.

The prominent accolades and awards shows in the world in the field of music have their appearances and received from American Music Award to Billboard and two nominations for Grammy Awards and they have also received Golden Disc Award.

Jungkook

Jeon Jung-kook, stage name Jungkook, was born in 1 September 1997 and is the youngest member and vocalist of BTS. In India, Jungkook is the most popular BTS star. After his schooling he auditioned for a South Korean Talent show “Superstar K” and though he did not get selected, he received offers from seven entertainment companies. He eventually chose to enroll with Big Hit Entertainment, because RM, another member of BTS, was already there, and now he is one of the best dancer, writer and singer in the group.

Jungkook has released three solo tracks with BTS. These are Begin in 2016, Euphoria in 2018, and My Time in 2020, all of which have charted on South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart. He also sang the soundtrack for the BTS-based webtoon 7Fates: Chakho, titled Stay Alive. In 2022, he was featured on the single Left and Right by American singer-songwriter Charlie Puth, which peaked at number 22 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Kim Tae-hyung was born on December 30, 1995, known V is the second most popular member among the Indian fans of the Korean boy band. After graduating from Korean Arts High School in 2014, V enrolled in Global Cyber University, from where he graduated in August 2020 with a major in Broadcasting and Entertainment. In 2021, he enrolled at Hanyang Cyber University, pursuing a Master of Business Administration in Advertising and Media.

V has released three solo tracks under the band’s name, Stigma in 2016, Singularity in 2018, and Inner Child in 2020, all of which have charted on South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart (is the music industry in South Korea now the name has changed to Circle Digital Chart). In 2019, V released his first independent song, the self-composed digital track Scenery. He also appeared on the Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016) soundtrack alongside bandmate Jin.

Park Ji-min

Park Ji-min aka Jimin was born on October 13, 1995. During his middle school, he attended Just Dance Academy and learned popping and locking dance, after that studied contemporary dance at Busan High School of Arts and was a top student in the modern dance department. In 2013, he made his debut as a member of BTS, under the record label Big Hit Entertainment.

Jimin has released three solo tracks with BTS, including Lie in 2016, Serendipity in 2017, and Filter in 2020, all of which have charted on South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart. In 2018, he released his first independent song, the digital track Promise, which he co-wrote and co-composed. He appeared on the soundtrack for the 2022 TvN drama Our Blues, and sang With You, a duet with Ha Sung-woon.

Kim Nam-Joon aka RM was born 12 September 1994. He is a rapper, singer-songwriter and record producer and the leader of the BTS group. During his fifth grade, RM became interested in hip-hop music after hearing Epik High’s Fly and finding that the song had provided him comfort, he decided to look further into the genre. He was introduced to the music of American rapper Eminem by his school teacher, which first sparked RM’s interest in lyrics.

In 2009, he auditioned for Big Deal Record, and though during the second round of interview he was rejected because of missing lyrics, but fortunately a producer from Big Hit Entertainment was there at that time and he offered him to join the Big Hit Entertainment as a trainee and he agreed. And eventually became the rapper of the BTS.

RM released his first solo mixtape, RM, in 2015. In 2018, he released his second mixtape, Mono, which peaked at number 26 on the US Billboard 200 and became the highest-charting album by a Korean soloist in chart history. He has also collaborated with artists such as Wale, Younha, Warren G, Gaeko, Krizz Kaliko, MFBTY, Fall Out Boy, Primary, and Lil Nas X.

Jung Ho-seok, stage name J-Hope, born on 18 February 1994, is rapper, singer-songwriter, dancer, and record producer of the BTS that he joined in 2013, under Big Hit Entertainment. At that time, he was relatively well known for his dance skills, and had won various local prizes, including first place in a national dance competition in 2008.

J-Hope released his first solo mixtape, Hope World, in 2018. The album was met with a positive reception from critics, and peaked at number 38 on the Billboard 200 in the United States, making him the highest-charting solo Korean artist on the ranking at the time. He became the first member of BTS to enter the Billboard Hot 100 as a soloist in 2019, when his single Chicken Noodle Soup, featuring singer Becky G, debuted at number 81 on the chart. In 2022, J-Hope released his debut studio album Jack in the Box.

Min Yoon-gi, stage name Suga, was born on March 9, 1993 and is a  rapper, songwriter and record producer of BTS. From the age of 13, he had begun to write music lyrics and learned about MIDI. He worked a part-time job at a record studio by age 17. From then on, he began composing and arranging music, rapping, and performing.

Managed by Big Hit Entertainment, he debuted as a member of the BTS in 2013.

In 2016, he released his first solo mixtape, Agust 15. In 2018, he re-released the mixtape for digital purchase and streaming. The reissue reached number three on Billboard’s World Albums Chart. In 2020, he released his second solo mixtape, D-2. Commercially, the mixtape peaked at number 11 on the US Billboard 200, number seven on the UK Albums Chart, and number two on Australia’s ARIA Album Chart. The Korea Music Copyright Association attributes over 100 songs to Suga as a songwriter and producer, including Suran’s Wine which peaked at number two on the Gaon Music Chart and won best Soul/R&B track of the year at the 2017 Melon Music Awards.

Kim Seok-jin

Kim Seok-jin, also known as Jin, was born in 4 December1992. He is a songwriter, and member of BTS. Kim originally wanted to be a journalist, but decided to pursue acting after watching Kim Nam-gil in Queen Seondeok. While in junior high school, he was scouted by South Korean K-pop agency SM Entertainment off the street, but rejected the offer at the time. Initially intending to be an actor, Kim attended Konkuk University and graduated with a degree in Film Studies on February 22, 2017.

Kim has co-written and released three solo tracks with BTS, namely Awake in 2016, Epiphany in 2018, and Moon in 2020, all of which have charted on South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart. In 2019, Kim released his first independent song, the digital track Tonight. He also appeared on the TV series Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth soundtrack alongside bandmates, V Kim has received critical praise for his falsetto and emotional range as a singer.

Apart from singing, Kim appeared as a host on multiple South Korean music programmes from 2016 to 2018. In 2018, he was awarded the fifth-class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit by the President of South Korea along with the other members of BTS, for his contributions to Korean culture.
