Uruguayan Air Force orders 5 A-29 Super Tucanos from Embraer

Contract includes mission equipment, integrated logistics services and a flight simulator, all contributing to FAU’s fleet renewal and operational expansion

Sao Paulo-based aviation giant Embraer has announced an agreement with the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) and the Uruguayan Ministry of National Defence (MDN), converting options for five A-29 Super Tucano aircraft into firm orders.

Embraer, a Brazilian Aerospace Corporation, has finalised a significant agreement with the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) and the Ministry of National Defence (MDN), converting options for five A-29 Super Tucano aircraft into firm orders enhancing the FAU’s fleet and operational capabilities.

In a press statement, Embraer says that the FAU has converted its options into a firm order for the aircraft, as part of an agreement signed in August 2024.

It adds that the contract includes mission equipment, integrated logistics services, and a flight simulator, all contributing to FAU’s fleet renewal and operational expansion.

Embraer says that with Uruguay and Portugal’s recent acquisition of the first NATO-configured A-29 Super Tucano now has 20 global operators and over 290 orders. It adds that the aircraft’s unmatched features make it the most cost-effective, accessible, and versatile choice for air forces worldwide.

It adds that the A-29 Super Tucano provides air forces with a proven, reliable, and cost-effective solution, offering operational flexibility for a wide range of missions, including close air support, air patrol, special operations, reconnaissance, training, and more.

“The relationship between Embraer and the Uruguayan Air Force has been growing and we are particularly pleased to announce this deal in the year in which we celebrate 50 years of Embraer’s first export contract, to Uruguay. We are ready to offer the best multi-mission aircraft to the FAU as well as our full support to increase their operational readiness and to enhance their capabilities to accomplish strategic missions such as border surveillance,” says Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO, Embraer Defence &  Security.

“The acquisition of the A-29 Super Tucano and the flight simulator will provide Uruguay with airspace defence capabilities and is part of the commitment assumed by the government to renew the material and equipment of our Armed Forces to fulfill their assigned missions,” says Armando Castaingdebat, Minister of National Defence, Uruguay.

“This incorporation projects us technologically, and upon completion of the A-29 acquisition process, it allows us to face, together with Embraer, the new regional security paradigms,” says General Luis H De León Commander in Chief, Uruguayan Air Force.
