More than 15,000 Christians, residents of Delhi and surrounding areas, staged a protest at Jantar Mantar citing massive upsurge in the cases of discrimination against their religion and the community. Protesters sought help from the government alleging that they are being illegally detained by police over religious conversion without any notice.

Members of the Christian community living in Delhi and surrounding areas held a protest rally recently against what they said was a sharp increase in targetted hostility, hate, and violence against Christians in many states, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, and Jharkhand.

According to the United Christian Forum (UCF), which organised the protest, a total of 598 incidents of violence against Christians were recorded in 21 states in 2022 alone. These incidents include intimidation, mob violence, and brutal assault, vandalism of sacred places of worship, sexual violence, and closure of churches, social ostracisation, denial of burial for the departed, and false reports under anti-conversion laws.

The organising committee and participants were members of various churches and congregations from across Delhi and the surrounding capital region. The protestors said that they were keen to highlight their concern about the mounting incidents and also to offer appropriate solutions to bring about peace and harmony in the country.
