Over 300 persons, mainly women belonging to various human rights groups, staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Saturday as part of the ongoing, nationwide protests against the remission granted by Gujarat government to 11 persons convicted of gang-rape and murder in the Bilkis Bano case of Gujarat riots. The protestors demanded justice for Bilkis Bano, who has expressed her outrage over the premature release of people who had been convicted of not only serial gang-rapes of women in her family but also brutally murdered her three-year-old daughter.

“These 11 persons, who have been released by the Gujarat government were convicted of crimes that are rarest of rare crimes by the judge who sentenced them. They were sentenced to life and means until death, not just 14 years. Their early release just days after the Prime Minister himself assured that he and his government respect women, shows the true mentality of the ruling party and their attitude towards women, Asha Rani, member of All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangathan, and one of the protestors at Jantar Mantar tells Media India Group.
