Devotees throng Jama Masjid in Delhi to celebrating Eid ul-Fitr
At 06:30 on Saturday, a serene namaz resonated through Jama Masjid in Delhi Muslims celebrated the end of Ramadan and arrival of Eid ul-Fitr with this special prayer. After the prayer, the devotees, sporting their best dresses, hugged and greeted each other. Despite the early hours, it was not just the adults, but even children had turned up at the historic mosque built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and which continues to be the largest mosque in India almost four centuries later.
On special occasions like Eid ul-Fitr, Muslims, not just from Delhi, but around the country and even overseas come to the Jama Masjid to offer their prayers at this UNESCO World Heritage site. Eid is a time for families to come together and enjoy traditional dishes like sevayi and biryani while celebrating the joyous occasion.
