Witnessing increasing emotional abuse against women on social media platforms, the Ministry of Women and Child Development in India is all set to launch a social campaign to discourage people from using obscene words for women.

A lot of women in the country are victims of mental abuse and social media further provided a platform to people to pull off the violence, which subject the women to anxiety and even depression.

Objectification of women sexually objectifies the female body and equates a woman’s worth with her body’s appearance and sexual functions.

Taking the matter in its hands, the Indian Ministry of Women and Child Development is working to develop a social campaign to put a ban on offensive words for women on social media.

In the recent past, to make the online world cleaner for its users, the ministry met Twitter and Facebook officials after noticing that a lot of women on social media face harassment in the form of curse words.

Women from all over the country filed complaints under the initiative that was carried out by the home and information technology ministries, encouraging the authorities to launch another campaign to make the online space safer.

The social campaign, that is expected to launch by early September this year, is aimed at putting an end to the profanity on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.

The authorities will also highlight specific words that are used often to objectify women so that people are ashamed of using them.
