By 2047, it aims to target 100 million inbound tourists, 20 billion domestic visits, and the creation of 200 million tourism-related jobs: FAITH
At its 2025 National Conclave that is underway in New Delhi, Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH), apex body of Indian travel and hospitality industry, has unveiled its Tourism Vision 2047 that aims at expanding India’s tourism economy to USD 3 trillion by 2047.

In a press statement, FAITH says that by 2047, it aims to target 100 million inbound tourists, 20 billion domestic visits, and the creation of 200 million tourism-related jobs.
“Our objective is to make tourism a national priority, doubling its contribution from 5 pc to 10 pc of India’s GDP by 2047. Achieving this requires a whole-of-nation approach, with strong collaboration between the central and state governments, private stakeholders, and local communities,” says Ajeet Bajaj, Vice Chairman, FAITH.
It adds that this vision also includes policy reforms aimed at granting infrastructure status to tourism, including the sector in the concurrent list and securing industry status in all states and union territories. It also focusses on a global and domestic marketing push, promoting India as a tourism destination through partnerships between government and industry.
Infrastructure development beyond the current 50 identified destinations is planned, along with harmonised infrastructure across states. Sustainability is another key element, with emphasis on implementing the ‘Sustainable Tourism Criteria of India’, applying carrying capacity guidelines, and protecting the ecological integrity of tourism sites.
FAITH says that the conclave featured contributions from Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo Airlines, senior tourism officials from Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh, retired bureaucrat Amitabh Kant as well as former Secretaries of Tourism. In his address, Puneet Chatwal, Chairperson, FAITH, highlighted tourism’s role as a driver of soft power across medical, spiritual, business and leisure travel.

“Tourism is the world’s highest job multiplier as one in four new jobs globally comes from tourism, aviation, and hospitality. With India’s demographic advantage, this sector is a natural engine for employment and GDP growth,” says Chatwal.
The apex Body says that the conclave also reinforced FAITH’s role as a unified voice representing associations including IATO, FHRAI, HAI, ADTOI, ATOAI, ICPB, IHHA, ITTA, TAAI, TAFI, and AIRDA. The statement adds that recommendations arising from the conclave will be submitted to the Prime Minister’s office, the Ministry of Tourism, and other relevant ministries.
