The northernmost Indian state in the lap of Himalayas, Jammu & Kashmir, has had its share of hardships. While on one hand sharing international borders with countries such as Pakistan and China arise territorial conflicts, on the other the insurgency in the early 1990’s affected the local lives and the tourism. The tourism that was one of the biggest economic support for the people suffered a gap of 20 years. However, for the past few years the tourism is once again surging as the government and the hospitality industry are taking initiatives. RK Sarovar Portico, one of the third largest chains in India, is among the only top brands of hotels apart from Taj in the capital city of Srinagar. In the exclusive interview with Shafiul Alam Ishaque, general manager, RK Sarovar Portico, talks about the footfall, new clientele, challenges, government actions, unexplored places and the fact that Kashmir is safe to travel.
