Delhi, the cultural hub of India, is home to numerous iconic forts and monuments. Each year, millions of tourists come to the Indian capital to visit these architectural marvels. Among these iconic wonders, the most popular one is the Red Fort or the Lal Qila. Once at the fort you may find many tourist guides outside the fort ready to walk you through the history.
However, with digitalisation, you may now know all about the history of the fort just with a click on your smartphone. But even today there is a certain charm in the way tourist guides narrate the stories allowing us to connect with the place in a way that we cannot with a mere digital device! As the guides bag the responsibility of portraying our colourful culture, their lives are rather grey. Recognised by the government as the cultural ambassadors, they barely manage to earn a decent living.
