Spring is here, and sweltering heat and itchy rash days are not far away. If you are still circling around the same skin care regime you have been following during the winters; you are doing it wrong.

Every year, the summer season plays havoc on our skin. Blistering heat, pollution, and humidity wipes off the natural glow, and sometimes, breeds infections. Here are some everyday beauty habits that make an effective summer skincare regime.

Exfoliate to shed the dead layers

Sweat and dust combined, can create a layer of dead skin and make you look dull. During summers, it is necessary to use appropriate exfoliating products such as exfoliation scrubs, gloves, cleansers or masks that suit your skin type, to rejuvenate the skin. However, make sure to use lukewarm water to wet your skin before scrubbing in circular motions. Rinse with warm water, pat dry, and do not forget to moisturise. Curd too is a great exfoliator that removes dead skin cells and moisturises the skin deeply, while helping it stay cool from within, even under the scorching heat.
Exfoliate the skin twice a week to keep it healthy.

Vitamins and essential oils

Antioxidants are a necessity to combat effects of radical damage caused by heat and pollution. Applying essential oils like lavender or primrose before going to bed can help repair the skin while maintaining hydration and elasticity.

Further, using serums and moisturisers rich in vitamin C rejuvenates skin and boost proteins in the skin’s connective tissues. Sources of vitamin A combat wrinkles and slow signs of aging gradually.

Eat healthily and stay hydrated

A nutritious diet is crucial in maintaining a healthy and youthful skin. Stay away from inflammatory foods with excessive oil, and add more fruits and vegetables to your diet. Keep your skin hydrated using hydrosols and stay away from sugary drinks. Try vegetable juices and natural alternatives like coconut water.

Stay cool with natural remedies

Natural remedies are the best way to remove sunburn and skin tan. Sandalwood can be used to improve skin texture and for treating burning sensations on the skin and protect it from rashes/acne. Another way to treat dry skin is to apply lemon with aloe vera.
