Sarchi is a world away from the congested Himachal Pradesh tourist routes, situated at an elevation of about 2,100 m. The drive up from Gushaini, a village almost 100 km away from Manali, is an adventure in itself, as the road goes winding through apple orchards and Deodar forests as expansive views of the Great Himalayan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, unfold around every corner.

Amidst verdant meadows and snow-capped peaks, the village, which consists of about 50 traditional wooden houses with slate roofs, is a picture of rustic beauty.

Sarchi’s tight-knit community and rich traditions are its beating hearts. A testament to the area’s spiritual legacy, the village is home to the historic Jagdamba Rishi Temple, a marvel of wooden architecture. Locals come together for feasts, music, and temple ceremonies during these lively festivals, which give tourists a unique window into real Himachali culture.

Sarchi is the ideal base for people who have an adventurous spirit. With hiking routes leading to Lambri Top, a ridge that provides 360° views of the Tirthan and Seraj Valleys, as well as Jalori Pass, Raghupur Fort and the tranquil Serolsar Lake, trekkers are spoilt for choice.

The paths meander through old forests and wildflower meadows, where the sharp-eyed may occasionally spot Himalayan fauna. Nature lovers are drawn to the nearby Great Himalayan National Park by its abundant biodiversity, which includes elusive musk deer and colourful monal pheasants.

What sets Sarchi apart is its untouched tranquillity. There are no commercial resorts or busy markets here. Rather, you will find a place where tradition and nature coexist peacefully, where every meal is a delicious home-cooked meal, and where each sunrise is a blessing in and of itself. Even after they leave Sarchi’s meandering streets and hospitable smiles, the visitors take home with them its unique sights, sounds and smells.
