In a bid to strengthen tourism ties with Japan, Uttar Pradesh is focusing on the development of the Buddhist circuit and enhancing cultural exchanges. A delegation from Japan, led by Ko Osada, Deputy Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, recently visited the state to explore collaboration opportunities. This initiative is part of Uttar Pradesh’s strategy to attract more international visitors, particularly from Japan.

In a press statement, Uttar Pradesh Tourism says that this move is part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader strategy to position itself as a key destination for international tourists, particularly those from Japan.

It adds that the delegation was received by Jaiveer Singh, Tourism and Culture Minister, Uttar Pradesh, who emphasised the state’s rich Buddhist heritage and its potential as a global pilgrimage destination.

It adds that in the meeting, UP tourism officials highlighted key initiatives aimed at bolstering the state’s tourism infrastructure, particularly within the Buddhist circuit.

The statement adds that the state is focusing on enhancing facilities for Buddhist pilgrims, with 179.77 acres of land earmarked for development. The tourism board’s land lease policy 2024 was also presented, which offers a 90-year land lease to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in tourism-related projects.

It adds that Osada expressed Japan’s strong interest in fostering deeper connections, noting the historical and spiritual ties between the two regions. He also mentioned plans for a larger Japanese delegation to visit Uttar Pradesh to explore further tourism and investment opportunities.

The tourism board adds that Neerendra Upadhyay, Advisor to Yamanashi Prefecture, spoke about the potential for increased tourism and academic exchanges, emphasising the shared spiritual history that could be leveraged to benefit both regions.
