World Music Day is celebrated every year on June, 21 to commemorate the impact music has on our lives. The popularity of the musical celebration originated in France has brought about a global endeavor to mark the day. The World Music Day was incepted in 1982 in Paris as the Fête de la Musique.
The original intention of the festival was to spread and promote music, especially among street musicians and to organize free concerts making all genres of music accessible to the public.
“World Music Days aims at transcending boundaries when it comes to music and musicians and I believe, music holds the key to universal peace. Music is important; each musical piece tells a story about the musician, his culture, his ethos and his homeland. Music is reflective and it is definitely therapeutic,” commented a street musician from Kolkata.
Here is what, Indian international cricketer Ravindra Jadeja tweeted on World Music Day:
Celebrate Music, Ignore The Noise Around. Happy #WorldMusicDay .
