Enterprising Travel Agents Association, Eastern India Chapter (ETAA) organised a comprehensive World Environment Day celebration at the Guru Nanak Institute of Hotel Management (GNIHM) Campus, Kolkata, with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Kolkata Regional Office.
In a press statement, the celebration brought together tourism industry professionals, hospitality students and their faculties and environmental expert, to address the critical intersection of sustainable tourism and environmental conservation. The event emphasised the tourism sector’s role in promoting eco-friendly practices, avoiding plastic use and responsible travel.
According to the statement, the day-long programme featured interactive sessions on sustainable tourism and on reducing carbon footprint in the hospitality industry. Participants engaged in discussions about implementing green initiatives across hotels, travel agencies and tour operations.
Speaker Nirit Datta, highlighted possible initiatives promoting sustainable tourism development, while Koushik Banerjee, Regional Director and Chapter Chairman, ETAA, shared best practices for environmental stewardship in tourism operations.
Additionally, the event showcased approaches to waste management, energy conservation, and community-based tourism models and ended with tree plantation drive by GNIHM students and faculties and ETAA members.
