Among them, several professionals of Indian origin, have attained the highest levels of corporate finance, wealth management and investment banking and today count among the most significant financial figures influencing Wall Street and beyond.
With major financial centres in New York City, San Francisco and Chicago, US is a global financial centre that is more than 13,000 km away from India. These three cities are home to the majority of Indian finance experts in US, with New York, the global financial hub, serving as the epicentre. Before relocating to US for further education or employment opportunities, many of these leaders were born and raised in Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai, three of India’s largest cities.

Banga began his career in India, spending 13 years at Nestlé India and two at PepsiCo before joining Citigroup in 1996. He rose to become CEO of Citigroup’s Asia-Pacific region before moving to the US and serving as President and CEO of Mastercard for 12 years. Under his leadership, Mastercard transformed into a global leader in digital payments and financial inclusion.
Banga now leads the World Bank, focussing on combating poverty and addressing climate change worldwide. He is recognised for his innovation, leadership and commitment to advancing economic growth and inclusion.

After starting his journey in India, Aiyengar went on to complete his undergraduate studies at Smith College in Massachusetts and earn a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Vanderbilt University. After working at American Express, she joined JPMorgan and has since grown to become a dependable advisor to Fortune 500 businesses. She has won the “Impact and Innovation Award” from Dress for Success and been listed in Barron’s 100 Most Influential Women in US Finance, demonstrating how well-known her expertise is.

She made a big transition to the fintech industry in 2021 when she joined Stripe, where she currently leads financial strategy for one of the most valuable startups in Silicon Valley.

Aggarwal has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Yale and a Master in Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in business economics from Harvard University. His work has received recognition from prestigious journals, including the Financial Analysts Journal’s Graham and Dodd Scroll Award. In addition to serving on numerous boards, he has taught at prestigious universities like Dartmouth, Oxford and the University of Michigan.
